12.5MM Steel Balls

The Long-Term Risks of Using 12.7mm Ammo in HDP50, HDP50 Compact, HDR50, and TR50

Selecting the correct ammunition for your HDP50, HDP50 Compact, HDR50, or TR50 is more than just a matter of immediate compatibility – it's about ensuring the long-term reliability and safety of your equipment. A critical point to understand is that while 12.7mm rounds might seem to work initially, they can lead to significant problems over time, including detent or barrel failure.

The detent, a key component in these models, is designed to hold and position the ammunition securely. When using 12.7mm rounds, which are slightly larger than the recommended 12.5mm, you might not notice any immediate issues. However, over time, the extra size and pressure exerted by these rounds can wear down the detent, leading to its failure. This not only compromises the accuracy and functionality of your gun but also poses a safety risk.

Similarly, the barrel of these models is not designed to accommodate the slightly larger 12.7mm rounds. While they may fit and fire initially, consistent use of these oversized rounds puts undue stress on the barrel. This can lead to barrel failure, which is a serious safety hazard and can render your gun unusable.

It's essential to remember that even if 12.7mm rounds seem to fit and function in the short term, the long-term risks are not worth the initial convenience or cost savings. This is why vendors like www.krmexpress.com only sell 12.5mm ammunition for these models, ensuring compatibility and safety.

The misconception that .50 cal labeled ammo is universally suitable for these models can lead to the mistaken use of 12.7mm rounds. As emphasized earlier, always verify that the ammo is specifically 12.5mm. Protecting your investment means not just looking at the immediate fit and function but considering the long-term health and safety of your equipment.

In summary, while 12.7mm ammunition might appear to be a suitable choice initially for your HDP50, HDP50 Compact, HDR50, or TR50, it’s important to be aware of the potential long-term consequences. Using the correct 12.5mm ammunition, as sold by reputable vendors, is crucial for ensuring the longevity, functionality, and safety of your device.

I wish I knew this bit of information before I screwed up my gun with cheap 1/2 balls I bought that were advertised for slingshots. I can vouch that they will rip apart the rubber part and break the flap part.
